Pierce Brosnan's Newsletter "September"

Dear Friends,

Greetings. Summer has come to a close and I have just wrapped my latest film called Marriage written and directed by Ira Sachs. I am in the very fine company of actors whom I have the greatest admiration for; Christopher Cooper, Rachel McAdams and Patricia Clarkson. The work went very well, long hours with a number of night shoots thrown in for good measure. The film, set in Seattle 1949, has a grace and an elegance, and is a story we can all relate to, one of love and marriage, time lost, secrets and sorrows. I have been in the beautiful city of Vancouver, a wonderful place to make movies, for several weeks. I was previously here this year with my production company Irish DreamTime filming Butterfly On A Wheel, co-starring Maria Bello and Gerard Butler, a psychological thriller directed by Mike Barker and written by Bill Morrissey.

Currently, I’m in Toronto for the Film Festival Gala screening of Seraphim Falls, a period piece set in the post Civil War era co-starring Liam Neeson and myself, written and directed by David Von Ancken.

Please check your local PBS listings for a six-part documentary I narrated called Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Adventures. The series illuminates the need for better understanding and sustainable management of the oceans' rich natural treasures. I also want to congratulate my friend Jean-Michel who after arranging a private screening of his documentary for President Bush, inspired the President to designate 140,000 square miles surrounding the northwestern Hawaiian islands as the worlds largest marine sanctuary.

Here’s hoping you all have a beautiful fall season. Stay tuned for more movie news! Be well.

Love and only love,

Pierce Brosnan Launches protest against gas terminal off Californian Coast

Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has joined a host of Hollywood celebrities protesting plans to build a liquified natural gas terminal off the coast of Southern California.

The $800 million (£425 million) terminal is being proposed by Australian-based BHP Billiton, one of the world's largest energy companies.

The terminal would be located 14 miles (22 kilometres) off the coast of Malibu, causing concern to Southern California residents such as Brosnan.

Brosnan said, "As a father and a concerned citizen and a resident of Malibu for 20-odd years, we are protesting this. Please let's consider this and let's look at it very clearly before we make any harsh moves."

A letter on Brosnan's website has been signed by Hollywood celebrities such as Barbara Streisand, Cindy Crawford, Martin Sheen, Tom Hanks, Sting and Charlize Theron.

A decision is expected to be made next year.
