MGM Chairman and CEO Harry Sloan said in Boston this week that he has given the green light to The Thomas Crown Affair sequel with Pierce Brosnan again in the lead

Sloan said "Pierce still looks good in a tux," not divulging many other details about The Topkapi Affair.

Back in January, Brosnan himself confirmed the film was about to go ahead: "Thomas Crown 2, for all intents and purposes, will happen. The script came in two days ago and it's good. We've announced it, we've said to the world that we're going to do it -- come hell or high water, we're going to do it. The bar is high on this one, the expectation is high on it."

Brosnan, who will produce, added that Rene Russo is not part of the sequel.

The follow-up is titled The Topkapi Affair and will draw on material from 1964's Topkapi, an MGM film, and the Eric Ambler novel which it was based on, called "The Light of the Day."

Pierce Brosnan joins 'Mamma Mia'

source ; abc news

Pierce Brosnan has become the latest star to sign up for the big-screen adaptation of hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia.

Film industry tabloid Daily Variety reports the Irish actor, best known for his portrayal of British super spy 007 in the James Bond films, will line up opposite two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep for the movie.

The film, which plays out to a soundtrack of hit songs from the Swedish super group of the 1970s and 1980s, tells the story of a young woman trying to find out the identity of her father.

Brosnan, who will play one of the men summoned to a Greek island by the woman, told Variety he had leapt at the chance to star alongside Streep, with whom he is set to perform a duet.

"I said 'yes' right away because it meant working with Meryl Streep," Brosnan said.

"Secondly, I saw the show with my family in London, and found it just so wonderfully happy and joyful, and so pitched in time forever in the 1970s.

"What a kick in the pants, to be able to go off and spend time with Meryl on some Greek island, singing ABBA songs."

Since its opening in London in 1999, Mamma Mia has grossed more than $US2 billion in worldwide ticket sales, making it one of the most successful musicals of all time.

Pierce Brosnan joined protestors on Malibu Pier in California on Saturday (10Mar07) to voice his concerns about a planned offshore liquified natural gas terminal.

Malibu locals, including the former James Bond star, fear the terminal will significant affect air quality, ocean views and marine life, as detailed in a new environmental impact study.

The rally on the pier was held to raise support for activists who will continue to protest the terminal plans when hearings begin next month (Apr07).
