Pierce in Soap....

Irish actor Pierce Brosnan would love a part in English soap opera Emmerdale. The former James Bond, 53, admits he's an avid watcher of the Yorkshire-set daily drama and is urging bosses to give him a small role - reports Star Pulse

He says, "I really enjoy Emmerdale - it's the scenery. I wouldn't mind a role in a soap, it all looks such good fun."

An Emmerdale spokesman said, "I'm sure the locals would be thrilled to welcome him down at the Woolpack (pub) for a vodka martini."

Pierce wins environmental battle

Former JAMES BOND star PIERCE BROSNAN has won a major environmental battle in his adopted Malibu, California after his efforts helped secure a victory for activists trying to stop plans for an offshore, floating natural gas terminal. Brosnan was among many celebrity Malibu residents who opposed the plans and he took part in a pier rally last month (MAR07) to make his feelings known. California's Lt Gov JOHN GARAMENDI announced that State Lands Commission authorities had denied the lease to build the terminal at a meeting in Oxnard, California on Monday night (09APR07) - to cheers from protestors.

Dear Friends,

Happy Earth Day!

My wife Keely and I have many things to celebrate this Earth Day. On April 9th the California State Lands Commission and on April 12th the California Coastal Commission voted that a proposal by the largest mining company in the world to build a massive floating Liquefied Natural Gas terminal off the coast Malibu and Oxnard did not comply with California’s environmental laws or the requirements of The Clean Air Act. Our hope is that our “Green Governor” Mr. Arnold Schwarznegger, will put the final nail in their coffin and veto this project – soon. If you’d like to send our Governor a message to terminate the terminal, please do so by clicking here.

You may have heard that I have been cast in the film version of the popular musical Mamma Mia. The film, which begins principal photography this summer in London and Greece, is being directed by Phyllida Lloyd who also directed the original stage production in 1999. I saw the show in London and New York with my family and found it a joyful experience. Both shows played to packed houses and both casts brought the house down.

I start rehearsals this week with one of America’s most talented and beautiful actresses, Meryl Streep, whose work has always inspired me. I’m looking forward to spending time with the other gifted cast members too, including: Amanda Seyfried, Julie Waters, Christine Baranski, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard. All cast members are now in London to pre-record the film’s soundtrack.

Married Life, an ensemble piece, written and directed by Ira Sachs and starring Christopher Cooper, Rachel McAdams, Patricia Clarkson and myself is due for release this fall. The film is a period piece set in Seattle in 1949, and is a story we can all relate to, one of love and marriage, secrets and sorrows.

For anyone who missed Seraphim Falls, an epic action/thriller set against the backdrop of the American Civil War starring Liam Neeson and myself, it will be release on video on May 15th. The film was written and directed by David Von Ancken, and is a visceral study of revenge and the aftermath of war. Shot entirely on location in Taos and Santa Fe, I hope the raw brutality and savage beauty Seraphim Falls will leave you on the edge of your seats.

After completing Mamma Mia, Irish DreamTime will go into production on the sequel to The Thomas Crown Affair. We have been scouting locations in Europe and the Middle East and I’m thrilled to be stepping back into Mr. Crown's shoes.

In celebration of Earth Day, I offer my sincere thanks to all of you who are doing your part to make our world a better place. Below are things my family and I do in our quest to be environmentally conscience.

Stay tuned for more movie news!

Love and only love,
