Mamma Mia tops Global Boxoffice

ABBA movie MAMMA MIA! is still singing at the top of the global box office chart - taking £9.45 million across 44 countries in the last week.

The Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan-starring musical has proved a far bigger hit outside the U.S. - grossing a total of £166 million in foreign territories to date, compared to £75 million in American movie theatres.

Will Smith's Hancock is the second biggest hit of the week, grossing £5.4 million, which lifts its global total to £202 million.

Wanted - starring Angelina Jolie - finished third, followed by The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Batman movie The Dark Knight lands in fifth place - boosting its total takings at the international box office to £242 million.

Add that to the £279 million the movie has made so far in the U.S., and The Dark Knight is close to reaching £540 million - a figure only achieved by Titanic, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
