NBC Universal profit jumps 10%


The company said it anticipates that fourth-quarter profit at the entertainment unit will be flat to up 5% from the fourth quarter of 2007. "We are cautious on the outlook here," said GE Chief Financial Officer Keith Sherin, during a call with analyts. ' I think you've got to look at what the local stations are doing. [And] we will have to see what the national advertising does. Great strength in cable, and we've got a pretty good performance in film outlined."
NBC Universal's net income rose to $645 million from $589 million in the third quarter of 2007.

Revenue climbed 35% to $5.07 billion.
Chief Financial Offer Keith Sherin told analysts on a conference call that the film segment saw its profit rise 40%, led by the performance of "Mamma Mia," a movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. The film has grossed more than $500 million worldwide.
