Organizers of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival say Roman Polanski’s latest movie, The Ghost Writer, will have its premiere at the event in February.
Polanski’s movie was among a first batch of entries in the festival’s main competition that was announced Tuesday. The event runs from Feb. 11-21 and is the first of the year’s major European film festivals.
In the film, Pierce Brosnan stars as a former British prime minister who’s writing his memoirs with the help of a ghostwriter, played by Ewan McGregor. It’s Polanski’s first film since 2005’s Oliver Twist.
The 76-year-old director is currently under house arrest in Switzerland, where he awaits possible extradition to the U.S. on a 32-year-old charge of sexual misconduct.

Irish star Pierce Brosnan has given "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
Brosnan, who co-stars with Pattinson in the upcoming drama "Remember Me" says Pattinson is a fantastic actor.
"I think when you see Remember Me, you'll see Robert giving a fantastic performance," said Brosnan.
"He's really working hard to work on his performance and acting and who he is."
Brosnan plays Pattinson's father "Remember Me, which is out in theaters in March 2010.
Pattinson plays a young man whose brother's suicide has split up his parents and left him sleepwalking through life.
However, as is the way in Hollywood, boy meets girl (Emile de Ravin ) and the new relationship comes under some strain as they try to cope with their respective family tragedies.
Reviews so far have been lukewarm but reviews will probably not stop Pattinson's legion of fans from making the film number one the weekend it comes out.
Several scenes for "Remember Me" were shot in Manhattan last summer and police had to increase security for the young British actor as frenzied fans chased him around

On February 12th, 2010, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan will be released. This film, directed by my friend Chris Columbus, with whom I worked on Mrs. Doubtfire, centers on a teenage boy who discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god. Percy Jackson then sets out on the adventure of a lifetime to settle an on-going battle between the gods. Cast members include Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Keener, Logan Lerman, Kevin McKidd, Melina Kanakerides, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario and yours truly.
On March 12th, 2010, Remember Me with the young and talented Robert Pattinson (Twilight, New Moon) is scheduled for release. Directed by Allen Coulter and written by Will Fetters and Jenny Lumet, Remember Me is a tale of two lovers whose relationship is threatened as they try to cope with their respective family tragedies. I will be playing Robert’s father, while Lena Olin has been cast as his mother. Other cast members include Chris Cooper and Emilie de Ravin.
The Ghost directed by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski will make its debut at the Berlin Film Festival on February 13th, 2010. This is the first contemporary thriller he has directed and produced in more than twenty years. Based on the book of the same name by best-selling author Robert Harris, The Ghost details the story of a former British Prime Minister and his anonymous ghostwriter who is drawn into a political and sexual conspiracy. The talented cast includes Ewan McGregor, Tom Wilkinson, Kim Cattrall, Timothy Hutton, Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh, and Olivia Williams.
In March 2010, the Irish DreamTime produced film The Greatest, starring Susan Sarandon, Carey Mulligan, Aaron Johnson, Johnny Simmons, Zoe Kravitz, and myself, which was well received at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and the 2009 Hampton’s Film Festival will be released. First time writer/director Shana Feste's richly evocative script results in a compelling drama that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The Hollywood Reporter asserts The Greatest "pulls off a stunning fete" and "...performances are daring and brilliantly shaded."
See you at the movies.
Love and only love,
