Brosnan almost turned down...

Brosnan almost turned down...

Pierce Brosnan almost turned down the chance to star in his upcoming flick, "The Greatest," about two parents struggling to move on after their son dies in a car accident - because his own son Sean survived a similar crash in 2000. "When I first got the script, I looked it over and put it under my bed for a week," the actor admitted to the Daily News' Debbie Tuma at the Hamptons Film Festival on Saturday. "I eventually decided to do it because I liked it, but it was hard to go to those deeper places in my heart."

Brosnan for MPA

Brosnan for MPA

source ; allheadlinenews.com

Santa Monica, CA (CNS) - Pierce Brosnan has led some of Hollywood's environment-conscious activists and leading ocean conservative groups in a new public service announcement supporting the establishment of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) along the Southern California coast.

Brosnan and wife Keely, with "Scrubs" stars John C. McGinley and Christa Miller, Amy Smart, Gabby Reece, Edie McClurg, and Simon Helberg team up for the PSA, which was produced by Heal the Bay, Surfrider Foundation, Save Our Coast, and Shifting Baselines.

In the ad, the stars give the importance of having areas of the ocean set aside as safe havens to conserve marine life and habitats, or MPAs. Just like national parks, which were created to preserve nature, MPAs will protect special places in the underwater world.

The PSA aims to raise awareness about the benefit of MPAs and to encourage public participation in helping resolve their boundaries.

East Hampton was the place to be Thursday night for the screening of Pierce Brosnan's new film, "The Greatest." 007 himself had ticket holders swooning when he arrived with producer Beau St. Clair and officially kicked-off opening day at the historic Guild Hall. Longtime festival supporter and Hamptons local Alec Baldwin was also on hand and all smiles, as was our favorite piano man Billy Joel, Bob Balaban, Amanda Pennington and the film's director, Shana Feste.

Earlier in the day Cheryl Hines was the guest of honor at the Women In Film Reception at The Hedges Inn. Cheryl and guests were welcomed by Hamptons Film Festival Executive Director Karen Arikian, Director of Programming David Nugent, and H.I.F.F. Chairman Stuart Suna. Cheryl was honored with the 2nd annual RoC Gold Standard in Filmmaking Award for a Feature Female Director. Her new film, Serious Moonlight, staring Meg Ryan & Timothy Hutton, was screened prior to the reception at the UA East Hampton and met with rave reviews.

The day's festivities ran well into the night as the celebration continued at Gurney's Inn in Montauk. Following the screening of "The Greatest" at Guild Hall, Jitney's full of movie goers and V.I.P.'s descended upon Gurney's for their annual Opening Night Party. And, as always, the party did not disappoint.

Actor Pierce Brosnan and his 8-year-old son Paris Beckett were spotted heading into the Taverna Tony restaurant in Malibu, Calif. on Saturday (October 3). It looks like papa Pierce just picked up his son from a soccer game. Mom Keely Shaye Smith and big brother Dylan Thomas, 12, did not accompany the father-son duo.

Brosnan costars with Susan Sarandon in the upcoming movie The Greatest. The drama depicts a family's struggle to heal over the loss of their son. The tear-jerker was first screened at the Sundance Film Festival this past January.

The Greatest is set to open the 17th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival on Thursday (October 8).

Polanski puts "The Ghost" on hold

Roman Polanski arrest puts latest film on hold; 'Ghost' stars Pierce Brosnan

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Roman Polanski's arrest in Switzerland has left his latest film in limbo, with several months of work before the political thriller is ready for theaters.

Polanski's agent, International Creative Management chief Jeff Berg, said Polanski had completed much of the editing on "The Ghost." But other post-production work, including music scoring and sound mixing, had yet to be done, Berg said.

Based on the provocative novel by Robert Harris, "The Ghost" stars Pierce Brosnan as fictional former British leader Adam Lang and Ewan McGregor as a ghostwriter hired to help complete his memoirs. The cast includes Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson, Olivia Williams and James Belushi.

The novel caused a stir in Britain for Lang's resemblance to former Prime Minister Tony Blair. Like Blair, Lang is a once-popular leader brought down by his allegiance with the United States in the war on terror.

While the film does not yet have a U.S. deal, it has distribution in many overseas territories, among them Germany, where it was shot early this year, and France, where Polanski lives. He fled America in 1978 after pleading guilty to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in Los Angeles.

Polanski was arrested over the weekend in Zurich, where he had traveled to receive a lifetime achievement award from a film festival. His lawyer said Polanski will fight U.S. attempts to have him returned to the United States.

"The Ghost" is the first Polanski movie with a U.S. setting since 1974's "Chinatown." Locations in Germany had to stand in for the story's New England settings.

"There's a lot of psychological intrigue in the story, as well as espionage and politics, and most of the action takes place in an oceanfront house during the middle of winter — all of it classic Polanski territory," Harris said when the film was announced in 2007.

Berg said Polanski usually finishes his films before lining up U.S. distribution, so the completed movie can be shopped around.

"There is always interest in movies that Roman distributes," Berg said. "It should be accepted on its own merits, but we feel highly confident we'll find proper distribution."

Polanski's films include the horror hit "Rosemary's Baby," the costume drama "Tess" and the Holocaust saga "The Pianist," which earned him the 2002 Academy Award for best director.

A Holocaust survivor himself, Polanski has endured other dire trauma, including the murder of his pregnant wife, actress Sharon Tate, by followers of cult figure Charles Manson in 1969.

With Polanski jailed, it's unknown when work might resume on "The Ghost." Berg said he is confident Polanski will put his legal troubles behind him and finish the film.

"I'm always optimistic when it comes to Roman," Berg said. "He's strong, and he has survived every situation imaginable."

The California coastline is nothing to be taken lightly. Spanning 1,110 miles and housing an array of aquatic life--cormorans, pelicans, sea otters, jellyfish, sea lions, gray and blue whales, seals, great whites sharks, just to name a few--it's one of the state's proudest attributes. Eighty percent of California's residents live within an hour's drive. It's highway, the scenic State Route One, is one of the most traveled roads in the country. Yes, people just can't seem to get enough of the California coast.

On Sept. 17, the California Coastal Commission and Sunset magazine combine forces to honor nine activists who put their heart and soul into preserving this coastine for future generations in honor of the upcoming California Coastal Cleanup Day.

Awards will be distributed in the Coastal Heroes Awards ceremony at San Francisco's Aquarium of the Bay to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Cleanup Day, which is officially celebrated on Sept. 19. The nine honorees are celebrity actor-and-journalist duo Pierce and Keely Brosnan; Serge Dedina, founder of Wildcoast; UC Santa Cruz Institue of Marine Sciences director, Gary Griggs; John Hanke, vice president of Google Maps & Earth; actress and activist, Julia Louis-Dreyfus; California State Senator, Alan Lowenthal; aquarium director Julie Packard; and California Coastkeeper Alliance director, Linda Sheehan.

Brosnan's house bulldozed

Brosnan's boyhood home bulldozed

source ; http://www.herald.ie/

Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan's boyhood home in Navan is to be demolished. The derelict house, called Boyne Crest, there the former 007 grew up with his grandparents, is due to be knocked down to make way for an apartment complex. The abandoned house will be bulldozed, along with two other houses on the site, to make room for the 43 new apartments due to be built by Boheranch Ltd, which have been given the go-ahead by Navan Town Council.

The company's earlier plans for the riverside site had been rejected three times by the town council, who first refused planning permission for the building work in 2004. Two more applications followed between 2004 and 2008, with residents voicing concerns about the visual impact on the Boyne, and traffic implications. Inspector Brian Brannigan backed the council's decision to refuse permission. The original proposal was for 71 apartments and 25 office units on a 0.57 hectare (1.4 acre) site, but was subsequently amended to include three blocks accommodating a total of 43 apartments. Navan vet Michael Carolan, who was one of the primary objectors to the application, said the decision marked a sad day for the people of Navan.

"It's sad because Pierce Brosnan is one of the most famous people to come out of this town and once his house is demolished it will be the last trace of him gone," he said.

Brosnan's parents -- carpenter Thomas Brosnan and his mother May, a nurse -- split up when he was a young child, leaving his grandparents Philip and Kathleen Smith to raise him in May's family home in Navan.

Brosnan has previously described his childhood as very solitary and claims he never knew his father at all.

"He left when I was an infant and I was left in the care of my mother and my grandparents," the actor said. "My mother was very courageous. She took the bold steps to go away and be a nurse in England, basically wanting a better life for her and myself. "My mother came home once a year, twice a year." The actor later moved to London to join his mother and subsequently studied acting before going on to become a worldwide phenomenon.

Hollywood stars' homes @ risk

source; www.contactmusic.com

PIERCE BROSNAN and DUSTIN HOFFMAN are playing an active part in trying to save the Malibu beach on which they own properties - after severe erosion has left their homes at risk.
Steven Spielberg, Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn are just a number of celebrities living on the city's Broad Beach - but tides and waves are eroding the shore and washing away foundations, leaving them powerless to do anything about it.
Brosnan and Hoffman are reportedly doing what they can to help the situation to save the stars' properties.
Lawyer Ken Ehrlich, who represents the homeowners' association, says, "They are both very concerned and have played a very active role, attending meetings and showing their concern."
Sandbags have offered a temporary solution, but the 300 residents in the area are now looking into funding a $24 million (£15 million) wall that will stretch out to sea, as well as importing sand in an attempt to save their homes.

Brosnan fights for dolphins!

Brosnan fights for dolphins!

 source ;

Former JAMES BOND star PIERCE BROSNAN is urging officials in Japan to end the slaughter of dolphins and porpoises in the country - condemning the practise of killing sea mammals for meat.
The Irish actor, a longtime environmental campaigner, has praised the work of a group of investigative journalists who have documented the killing of dolphins in Japan in new film The Cove.
Brosnan admits he was shocked and appalled to see the real life cruelty onscreen - and is urging members of the public to petition American leaders in a bid to stop the slaughter in Japan.
He writes on his official website, with his wife Keely, "We have long been passionate about marine mammal protection. After watching The Cove, we were astonished to discover that more than than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are slaughtered in Japan each year, and that their meat - which contains toxic levels of mercury - is sold to consumers and in grocery stores across Japan.
"Without this kind of investigative journalism, the plight of dolphins and the safety of some of Japans seafood may not have been adequately reported. This powerful and moving film is an urgent cry for help - and now that the public finally knows the truth, we must demand change."
