March 26th, 2010

Dear Friends,

Spring greetings.

Hope this letter finds you well.

I recently returned from a 45-day press tour to promote several new films I am proud to have been a part of. I am pleased that "Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightening Thief" opened in February at #2 at the box office and that it has delighted young fans across America. "The Ghost Writer," based upon the book "The Ghost," written by Robert Harris and directed by Roman Polanski has received critical acclaim from The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Hollywood Reporter, and Rolling Stone. "The Ghost Writer" is rolling out to wider audiences this week. On March 12th, "Remember Me" starring Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Chris Cooper, Lena Olin, and myself opened nationwide. Kirk Honeycutt for The Hollywood Reporter wrote: "Remember Me" is a smart, engaging drama about young love flourishing amid sadness and loss. Claudia Puig for USA Today said
"Remember Me" is a touching love story, but its broader tale of familial relations packs a greater emotional punch.

Next up, "The Greatest," starring one of the most beautiful and candid women in the cinema, Susan Sarandon and the luminous Carey Mulligan, which I produced with Beau Marie St. Claire, my partner at Irish DreamTime, and Lynette Howell. "The Greatest" which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, was written and directed by Shana Feste, who made her debut as a first time director with this inspired independent feature film.

This April 22nd celebrate Earth Day 2010 by taking your family to see "Oceans," a documentary I narrate, produced by DisneyNature, the studio that presented the record-breaking film "Earth." Directors Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud feature spectacular never-before-seen imagery captured by the latest underwater technologies, offering an unprecedented look at the mysteries that lie beneath the seas while exploring the harsh realities and amazing creatures that live within. In honor of every guest who sees "Oceans" during opening week (April 22-28, 2010), DisneyNature will make a contribution to The Nature Conservancy to help save coral reefs.

This spring I begin production on a new film titled "Salvation Boulevard" based on a novel of the same name, written by Larry Beinhart, (who also wrote "Wag the Dog"). "Salvation Boulevard" follows a former Deadhead-turned-born again-Christian who finds himself on the run from fundamentalist members of his mega church who will do anything to protect their larger-than life pastor (yours truly). Greg Kinnear, Ed Harris, Marisa Tomei, Sam Elliot, Jim Gaffigan, and Jennifer Connolly round out this all-star cast. The film will be directed by George Radliff.

Wishing you a great year ahead. See you at the movies.

Love and only love

Bond is back?

Bond is back?

Pierce Brosnan will never be the same - the same debonair international spy known as James Bond he played so iconically in the '90s. But no matter. Today, Brosnan is a full-time film actor who is busier than ever, juggling four new movies, five children and newfound visibility. "People think if they don't see you as James Bond, that's it, you're retired," he says. "That I'm still at the table is great."

In addition to the recent Percy Jackson & The Olympians, he plays an ex-British prime minister in The Ghost Writer, opening nationally this weekend. Coincidentally, Brosnan, who lost his first wife to cancer in 1991 and almost lost his son Sean, now 26, in a car accident in 2000, plays a grieving father in two other films. In Remember Me (opening March 12), he plays dad to Twilight star Robert Pattinson, and in The Greatest (April 2 in New York and L.A.), he's husband to Susan Sarandon. Recently, we spoke with him:

Pierce Brosnan interview

Pierce Brosnan interview

SOURCE ; WWW.CTV.CA

NEW YORK — A debonair Pierce Brosnan, Bond-like in black jacket and gleaming white shirt, strides into a Manhattan hotel room for an interview.

"I don't normally dress like this," he quickly notes.

Glamour has always come easily — almost too easily — for Brosnan, whom his fellow drama school students dubbed "Hollywood" long before the Irish actor became a star. But if Brosnan has occasionally leaned too much on his good looks, he's recently settled into more of a character actor's life.

Brosnan has four films out in the coming weeks, a diverse group of movies that speaks to his simple desire for work and his increasing comfort in challenging himself. A few years ago, he may have been in a "post-Bond" phase with such movies as the offbeat comedy "The Matador" and the Western "Seraphim Falls." But he's now post-post-Bond, less self-aware of his iconic stature and more a working, maturing actor.

"I have said to my agents, `I want to work,'" Brosnan says. "I want to play character roles. You can be a leading man for so long and it's wonderful, but there comes a time where you have to deal with life and move over on the stage."

The first of Brosnan's four upcoming films is "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief," a mythical fantasy that adapts Rick Riordan's kids best seller. Sean Bell stars as a demigod, whose self-discovery is guided by Chiron (Brosnan), a centaur. (Yes, that's half-man, half-horse.)

In Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer," Brosnan co-stars as a former British prime minister, a character clearly modeled after Tony Blair. In "The Greatest," a Sundance entry in 2009, he plays the father of a family (Susan Sarandon, Johnny Simmons) dealing with the grief of their teenage son's death. And in "Remember Me," Brosnan — with Brooklyn accent — plays the father of a rebellious New York teenager (Robert Pattinson).

"I've seen all the films and I was just talking last night with my wife and I said, `It seems to be working. There seems to be something there that makes sense,'" says Brosnan. (He's been married to Keely Shaye Smith since 2001 and has two sons with her. He also has three older children from his first wife, Cassandra Harris, who died of cancer in 1991.)

The role of James Bond was a long time coming for Brosnan, who began acting in London's West End. His breakthrough was the title role in the TV detective series "Remington Steele." When it was initially canceled in 1986, he was asked to take over 007, but NBC (more intent on retaining talent in those days) decided to resurrect the series, preventing him from taking up Bond.

But his chance would come again, beginning with 1995's "GoldenEye," and continuing with three more Bond flicks that together breathed life (and box-office success) into the old franchise. When Brosnan was dropped after 2002's "Die Another Day," he had proven himself in other films such as 2001's moody mystery, "The Tailor of Panama," and the 1999 hit remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair." (A sequel is in the works.)

Then he became a brooding assassin in 2005's "The Matador," a charming dark comedy. He calls the part "a great confidence booster."

"I really felt like I got a transformation there of some sort. I felt very shackled by the Bond and didn't want to rock the boat," says Brosnan. "It was good to actually act. You get tangled up in your own ego of image and how you're perceived. You can lose your way."

The performance, which cleverly inverted the sophisticated spy, earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He cheerfully announces that he and his "Matador" co-star, Greg Kinnear, are "going to go again." In April, they'll begin filming "Salvation Boulevard," in which Brosnan will play a mega-church preacher and Kinnear his disciple.

Chris Columbus, the director of "Percy Jackson," first directed Brosnan in 1993's "Mrs. Doubtfire," where he was impressed by Brosnan's lack of ego.

"He's got like a third career now," says Columbus. "Because he's still incredibly handsome and kept himself in shape, he can still play leading men. But I like the fact that he goes off and sometimes tries these quirky supporting roles."

Brosnan is especially excited about "The Ghost Writer" — which is timely not only because of Polanski's extradition to the U.S. to face sentencing in his 1977 case of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor — but also because the troubles of his character, Adam Lang, very much mirror the current British inquiry into Blair and the Iraq war.

Brosnan studied Blair, but never tried to mimic him, realizing he couldn't do what Michael Sheen has done in "The Queen" (2006) and "The Deal" (2003), both Peter Morgan-penned films in which Sheen memorably depicted Blair.

"I'm not doing an impersonation of Blair. But it's all about Blair," Brosnan says. "It's all about the politics of this fascinating historical time that has jolted us seismically awake."

As in "The Greatest" (which Brosnan produced with his partner Beau St. Clair), Brosnan plays a seemingly in-control man, whose facade is breaking. But he was hesitant to do the film, thinking it was too dark a place to go as a father. It was bound to dredge up a frightful memory when one of his sons was in a bad car accident in Malibu, Calif.

"The darkness and the abyss you come to," he says, shaking his head.

Brosnan stops himself from saying he never challenged himself enough, but he acknowledges his instinct is sometimes to "get away in a good-looking suit and some snappy patter."

But pushing yourself can be habit-forming.

"If not now, when?" he says. "If you fall down, so what? At least you did something."

  • Pierce Brosnan Takes His Boys' Advice

Pierce Brosnan, well-known for captivated audiences as James Bond, is now making the biggest stretch of his career by playing a half-man, half-horse character in Percy Jackson and the Oympians: The Lightning Thief, based on the popular teen novel.

Pierce said that his two young sons with wife Keely Shaye Smith - Dylan, 12, and Paris, 8 - talked him into taking on this new role.

"I bought the book three or four years ago for my son, who's now 12, and then forgot about it," Pierce told Parade. "So we were there having dinner one night, and I said, 'They want me to be in this film called Percy Jackson and the Olympians. My son said, 'You got me the book but I never read it.' He checked it out and went, 'Oh, this is good. You've got to do it dad, you've got to do it.'"

And Pierce was thrilled with Paris' critique of the film.

Thomas Crown sequel?

Thomas Crown sequel?

source ; www.comingsoon.net

Actor Pierce Brosnan is going to be around a lot in the coming months with key roles in a number of films including Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer and the romantic drama Remember Me. At the junket for Chris Columbus' fantasy-adventure epic Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, in which Brosnan plays a centaur named Chiron, ComingSoon.net asked him if he had any update on the proposed sequel to his 1999 thriller The Thomas Crown Affair, last mentioned almost two years ago, to be based on the 1964 Peter Ustinov film Topkapi and Eric Ambler's novel "Light of Day."

The last word was that Paul Verhoeven might direct and that Angelina Jolie would co-star with Brosnan, so we quickly asked the actor if there was any progress on the sequel.

"We've got the fourth script in and this is the closest we've gotten in structure to making sense," he told us. "It's very very hard. Now we have the character, it's not really fleshed out, so we have to work on him, Mr. Crown, and her, Miss Moore*, another affair, more art, but it has to be an unexpected surprise."

(*Note: We might have misunderstood the name he mentioned but it seems like this might be the new character that reportedly Angelina Jolie was once attached to play.)

Brosnan has been very involved with the process of developing this sequel and making sure to get it right, and while he'll be doing quite a bit of press over the next month for the
movies mentioned above, it's not definite we'll be able to get more of an update than that. Look for more with Brosnan in the coming weeks, starting next week before Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief comes out on February 12. (Belgium February 10th)

Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays.

On February 12th, 2010, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan will be released. This film, directed by my friend Chris Columbus, with whom I worked on Mrs. Doubtfire, centers on a teenage boy who discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god. Percy Jackson then sets out on the adventure of a lifetime to settle an on-going battle between the gods. Cast members include Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Keener, Logan Lerman, Kevin McKidd, Melina Kanakerides, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario and yours truly.

On March 12th, 2010, Remember Me with the young and talented Robert Pattinson (Twilight, New Moon) is scheduled for release. Directed by Allen Coulter and written by Will Fetters and Jenny Lumet, Remember Me is a tale of two lovers whose relationship is threatened as they try to cope with their respective family tragedies. I will be playing Robert’s father, while Lena Olin has been cast as his mother. Other cast members include Chris Cooper and Emilie de Ravin.

The Ghost directed by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski will make its debut at the Berlin Film Festival on February 13th, 2010. This is the first contemporary thriller he has directed and produced in more than twenty years. Based on the book of the same name by best-selling author Robert Harris, The Ghost details the story of a former British Prime Minister and his anonymous ghostwriter who is drawn into a political and sexual conspiracy. The talented cast includes Ewan McGregor, Tom Wilkinson, Kim Cattrall, Timothy Hutton, Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh, and Olivia Williams.

In March 2010, the Irish DreamTime produced film The Greatest, starring Susan Sarandon, Carey Mulligan, Aaron Johnson, Johnny Simmons, Zoe Kravitz, and myself, which was well received at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and the 2009 Hampton’s Film Festival will be released. First time writer/director Shana Feste's richly evocative script results in a compelling drama that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The Hollywood Reporter asserts The Greatest "pulls off a stunning fete" and "...performances are daring and brilliantly shaded."

See you at the movies.

Brosnan joins "Percy Jackson" cast

Brosnan joins "Percy Jackson" cast

source ;Comingsoon.net

Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakaredes have been cast in Fox 2000's fantasy-adventure adaptation Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief as classical Greek gods Chiron (Brosnan), Medusa (Thurman), Zeus (Bean), Poseidon (McKidd) and Athena (Kanakaredes). Aries, Hades and Persephone have not yet been cast.

The film, being directed by Chris Columbus, is shooting in Vancouver for a February 12, 2010 release.

Columbus and Craig Titley have adapted the screenplay from Rick Riordan's best-selling children's novel. The Greek mythology-inflected book involves Poseidon's half-human son, Percy, who's on a quest across modern America to prevent a war among the gods.

Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson have already been cast as the book's lead teenagers.

"Lightning Thief" is the first of five novels about Percy Jackson and the Olympians -- the fifth, "The Last Olympian," is due in stores in May. The studio hopes to spin the books into a franchise in the "Harry Potter" mold.
