Dear Friends,

Schools out for summer and I am en route to Hawaii for a brief visit. I will be starting a new film “Remember Me” with the young and talented Robert Pattinson (Twilight) on location in New York this summer. Directed by Allen Coulter and written by Will Fetters and Jenny Lumet, Remember Me is a tale of two lovers whose relationship is threatened as they try to cope with their respective family tragedies. I will be playing Robert’s father, while Lena Olin has been cast as his mother. Other cast members include Chris Cooper and Emilie de Ravin.

I recently wrapped production on Percy Jackson, based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan. The film, directed by my friend Chris Columbus, with whom I worked on Mrs. Doubtfire, centers on a teenage boy who discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god. Percy Jackson then sets out on the adventure of a lifetime to settle an on-going battle between the gods. Cast members include Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Keener, Logan Lerman, Kevin McKidd, Melina Kanakerides, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario and yours truly.

In April I completed shooting The Ghost with Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski. This is the first contemporary thriller he has directed and produced in more than twenty years. Based on the book of the same name by best-selling author Robert Harris, The Ghost details the story of a former British Prime Minister and his anonymous ghostwriter who is drawn into a political and sexual conspiracy. The talented cast includes Ewan McGregor, Tom Wilkinson, Kim Cattrall, Timothy Hutton, Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh, and Olivia Williams.

Last summer my company Irish DreamTime produced The Greatest, starring Susan Sarandon, Carey Mulligan, Aaron Johnson, Johnny Simmons, Zoe Kravitz, and myself, which was well received at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. First time writer/director Shana Feste's richly evocative script results in a compelling drama that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The Hollywood Reporter asserts The Greatest "pulls off a stunning fete" and "...performances are daring and brilliantly shaded." The Greatest was purchased by Senator Entertainment and will be released this fall.

Wishing you a wonderful summer.

See you at the movies.

Love and only love,

The Greatest ; story

Crying your eyes out at the movies used to be commonplace. But the difficulty of affecting a contemporary audience emotionally demonstrates how much respect a work like The Greatest engenders: it is an enormously moving, intelligent exploration of pain and grieving, a film that will touch you and stay with you.
The death of their teenage son, Bennett, in a car crash is almost too much for the Brewer family to bear, not just because his was a life of such promise but also because the impact of his death unleashes the turmoil that was just beneath the surface of their lives. His mother becomes obsessed and can’t let go; his father, in turn, can’t face it at all; and his brother’s secondary status is magnified and entrenched. And when Bennett’s girlfriend appears, the family must come to grips with circumstances that complicate their loss even further. An ensemble film that is the debut of Shana Feste, a particularly talented young filmmaker, this sensitive and heartbreaking feature showcases Susan Sarandon and Pierce Brosnan at their best and launches a career for young actress Carey Mulligan that is certain to be impressive. This is one of the standout works of this Festival and is as fine a debut as we can present.

Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon have signed to star in The Greatest. The drama will be the directorial debut of screenwriter Shana Feste.

Variety reports Feste’s drama follows a young girl who becomes involved with a family grieving the loss of a teenage son. Brosnan and Sarandon will handle the roles of the grieving parents with shooting scheduled to start this summer on the East Coast.

Barbarian Films is lined up to finance the film and serve as the executive producer. The film will be a co-production between Silverwood Films and Brosnan's Irish DreamTime. Silverwood's Lynette Howell and Irish DreamTime's Beau St. Clair are scheduled to produce the movie.

In addition to his role on screen, Brosnan will serve as an executive producer with Doug Dey, Aaron Kaufman, Douglas Kuber and Ron Hartenbaum.

In Variety, St. Clair stated: "What drew us to this piece is Shana's rare ability to uniquely dramatize the complicated dynamics of a family's struggle to stay together as they deal with unforeseen tragedy."

Brosnan will return to the screen with Meryl Streep in Universal's upcoming musical Mamma Mia!, and will return to the title role in MGM’s The Thomas Crown Affair 2. The sequel is being directed by Paul Verhoeven.

Sarandon is on the screen now in the family-friendly Speed Racer, and just finished work on the Peter Jackson-directed film The Lovely Bones.
